I just started learning Chinese too! My husband is Chinese American and since we have two kids now, I figured it was time to finally dig in. I’m using Duo but I’ll look into the other tools you mentioned as well as watch movies. The last time I dug into a language like this was 15 years ago when I taught myself basic Georgian on Byki for a month or so before moving there to teach English. And you’re right, learning new stuff really helps when you’re trying to reduce time on socials!

ahh I wish I grew up bilingual!! I mix up my english and german enough when I'm drunk that it feels like I am though

Ngl I wish it had been any other language than German, I think it’s a very ugly language but maybe it’s just bc I associate it with always being the only non white person everywhere.

Have you read Momo or Die Unendliche Geschichte lmao. Those were my jam as a kid

My current fixation is learning Linux and watercolor. I always thought I’d hate watercolor but I’m finding out that gouache might be the solution to that. I was diagnosed with ADHD and then autism and I’m unsure which is more responsible for the cyclical hyperfixating

ive been thinking about learning linux. computer things scare me, but I thought learning Chinese would be super hard and it's not scary

It’s definitely not as scary as it seems! Try tryhackme dot com if you wanna check it out.

Have you had any past hyperfixations with painting by any chance and if yes do you have advice
